The National Housing Supply and Affordability Council convened in Canberra from 4 to 5 September 2024.
On 4 September 2024, Chair Susan Lloyd‑Hurwitz addressed the National Press Club.
Following the address, Fiona Wright, Acting CEO of the Suburban Land Agency, briefed the Council on the ACT Government’s Indicative Land Release Program and how this model compares with other jurisdictions.
Council members visited Woden Green in Phillip, hosted by Rowan Hindmarsh, CEO of Hindmarsh. The Council discussed levers to stimulate increased housing activity and the challenges to scaling up to provide more supply.
On 5 September 2024, the full Council met at the Treasury office. The Council examined how its housing supply and demand model can be enhanced. The Council discussed the place of affordable housing in the Australian housing system and committed to include a focus on First Nations housing in its ongoing work. The Council started preparations for the State of the Housing System 2025 report.
Erin Cassie, Assistant Secretary, Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts briefed the Council on the new National Urban Policy and the Housing Support Program.
